Attendance and Deadline Modifications
For students that have disabilities with random acute episodes which may require them to miss class or deadline, Disability Services will approve for the student to be granted a reasonable amount of flexibility with excused absences, exam dates, deadlines, and participation points. Once approved for this accommodation, Disability Services will provide students with an “Attendance/Deadline Letter”, which directs instructors to work with them in developing a plan to modify the attendance, deadline, and participation policies. This plan, called an “Attendance and Deadline Modification Agreement”, is put in writing on the 3rd page of the Attendance/Deadline Letter. These agreements should be completed as early in the semester as possible, ideally within the first few weeks of the course.
An Attendance and Deadline Modification Agreement must be reasonable, meaning it cannot compromise the essential learning outcomes of the course. Reasonableness is determined by the course design. Students that are interested in or have questions about this accommodation should speak with their Access Specialist.
