1. Student Affairs In Need of Wellness Coaches for Its Wellness Assessment Initiative
Student Affairs staff, in consultation and collaboration with partners from First Year Experience, University Interfaith Association, College of Education and Human Ecology, and the Psychology Department, have developed a wellness assessment for OSU students speaking to the social, physical, intellectual, career, emotional, spiritual, and financial dimensions of wellness. The goal of this assessment is to identify the best practices in improving the student experience through targeted interventions addressing at risk behaviors and unhealthy conditions of students who complete the assessment.
Students who are acknowledged by the assessment as engaging in health compromising behaviors within any of the wellness dimensions will be guided toward appropriate campus and community resources by wellness coaches. Wellness coaches are trained undergraduate and graduate students who provide support and guidance to students engaged in the wellness assessment initiative.
Wellness Coaches:
· are each assigned to a specific student to help him/her achieve a healthier lifestyle,
· encourage their students to connect with appropriate resources based on their wellness assessment results,
· interact weekly with their students in a variety of ways including face to face, via the internet, or via telephone and,
· are trained in communication skills and referrals.
· Training for this quarter is:
Sunday, March 4 from 7-9pm, RPAC meeting room #1 or
Monday, March 5 from 7-9pm, RPAC meeting rooms #2-3. A wellness coach will be asked to attend only one training. Refreshments will be provided.

4. ODS ATTC Computer Lab Introduces New Hands Free Computer Navigation Technology
The ATTC computer lab has purchased a new technology that enables a computer user to navigate within the computer environment completely hands free! This new technology, called SmartNav, utilizes an infrared motion sensor to track the user’s head movements which in turn moves the mouse pointer on the screen. SmartNav even allows the user to “mouse click” without touching a mouse as well! The software and equipment was installed last week and will be available for demonstration and use this coming week. If anyone is interested in seeing a short demonstration of this technology, please contact the ATTC GA, (Matt Bereza), at mbereza@studentaffairs.osu.edu to schedule an appointment. The SmartNav manufacturer’s website also contains detailed information about the technology as well as demonstration videos.
5. ODS Wants Your Feedback - Online Survey Coming Soon!
Each year, the Office for Disability Services solicits feedback from ODS students via the ODS Online Survey. This survey is designed to give all ODS students the opportunity to rate ODS services and provide ODS with feedback. This input provides us with valuable information to assist us in giving the best services possible. The survey asks for specific feedback on each of our service areas - Alternative Media, ATTC Computer Lab, Counseling, Exam Accommodations, Interpreting/Transcribing and the general ODS environment - there are also items regarding the overall climate here at OSU pertaining to disability. The survey is quick, easy and confidential. We hope that everyone will take a few minutes to give us your feedback when the survey is opened. Stay tuned for the announcement within the next couple of weeks.
