1. Psychiatric Disabilities? A Brief Survey to Express Your Opinion, from Hillary
Hello Everyone,
As some of you know, my name is Hillary Jones. I am in graduate school for Occupational Therapy. I am the current Unity President. One of my courses this quarter is a Mental Health Course. We were asked to do a project to help us learn more about what mental health issues mean to society. I have created a survey at http://www.stellarsurvey.com/response/s.aspx?u=10056, of a few questions I wish to know more about from the student population. The survey consists of only four questions. Would you take a few moments and click on the link and fill out the survey? Your responses are completely anonymous - I will have no way of knowing who filled out what responses. I will close the survey on February 13th. At that point I will analyze the results and write an article for my class and The Lantern newspaper. I would really appreciate if everyone would help me out!
Thanks for your time.
Hillary
Unity President
2. **Important Updated Information Regarding Final Exams**
With the closing of the Ohio Union and the Main Library, ODS will be using spaces in alternative locations including the College of Law Library, Campbell Hall and one of the classrooms located in Pomerene Hall. If you have not already turned your Proctor Sheets into ODS, please be sure to turn them in no later than Friday, February 16.
Be sure to check in with ODS during the final week of classes (March 5th) to find out where your finals will be located. Also, be sure to bring your BuckID or driver's license with you for all exams to be taken taken at ODS including remote site exam locations.
3. Leadership Course
from Rich Hollingsworth, Vice President of Student Affairs and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Policy and Leadership
I wanted to alert you to course I have offered for the last eleven Spring quarters. It is a leadership class in which 18 to 20 seniors with significant leadership experience meet in a seminar format and work together to integrate what they have learned both in and out of class at Ohio State into a unified system of thought about leadership. Students graduating Sp07, Su07, Au07 and Wi08 are eligible to enroll.
In class we will explore what you have learned about various components of leadership practice and compare and contrast your notions against a contemporary model of leadership. For example, we will explore your current thinking about the most effective approaches to solving problems, mobilizing people to act to achieve goals, utilizing diversity to strengthen an organization, making decisions within an ethical framework, initiating change, and finding balance in your life as a leader. We will also discuss how leadership will continue to be a theme in your life in the world of work or graduate/professional school following graduation.
This is a 600 level course in Educational Policy and Leadership. (I will provide the details, including the call number to those who want to enroll.) It is graded S/U and is for 3 hours of credit. The class meets in one, three hour session per week and the time is ARRANGED to accommodate the schedules of all class members. (In the past, the class has met on a week night at a time agreeable to all class members. Given the busy schedules of seniors the time has most often been 8 or 9 p.m. to 11 or midnight.) There is one book to read and a weekly journal to write but no exams or research papers. Much of the learning in the seminar comes from the discussion in class and the private reflection you do about your leadership experiences over the last several years.
The dynamics of this type of seminar are very exciting. I think students enrolled in previous years have found it stimulating and very helpful as they try to put a cap on their total undergraduate experience. I too learn each time I offer the class.
If you are interested and would like to enroll I need the following information from you sent to me at hollingsworth.1@osu.edu. I will then send you the call number and other details.
* Your name
* Complete local address
* Local phone
* E-mail address
* College and major
* Graduation date
Enrollment is limited to 20 students and so I encourage you to get back to me as soon as possible, if you are interested.

5. Got Art? Submit it to the Disability Awareness Month Art Exhibit
In April, ODS will be kicking off its annual Disability Awareness month with the opening of a disability art exhibit. Artwork will be displayed on the second floor of Bricker Hall the entire month of April. The opening reception will be on Wednesday, April 4. If you are an artist and would like to have some of your work exhibited, please contact Lois Burke at burke.4@osu.edu.
6. ODS Welcomes New Disability Services Counselor!
We are pleased to announce that a new Disability Services Counselor will be starting on Monday, February 19th. Kera McClain has been hired as the new disability counselor. Many of you know her from her helping you to obtain your alternative media materials because she has been the Alternative Media Assistant for the last 2 years. The majority of the students who previously had Mary Koeninger as counselor will now be assigned to Kera. Please welcome her aboard in her new role!
