1. ODS Welcomes New Director!

 

We are pleased to announce that Lois Burke has been named the new Director of the Office for Disability Services! Lois has worked at ODS for 21years where she has served as counselor, Assistant Director, and Interim Director! Please welcome her aboard in her new role!

  


 

2. SPRING CAREER DAY

April 10, 10:00-3:00

Huntington Club, Ohio Stadium

The Spring Career Day is one of Ohio State's largest job fairs with over 100 employers attending this year. It is open to current students and recent graduates from all majors and campuses. Whether you are looking for a fulltime job, a part-time job, or an internship, you are bond to find employers with opportunities that fit your interests.

3.   Summer Research Internships can Earn You $2500.00!

The University Honors & Scholars Center has announced that it will award several Summer Research Internships, in the amount of $2500, to especially promising Honors Students so that they will have the opportunity to enhance significantly the quality of their Senior Honors Research and Thesis Projects. Selection will be made by a University-wide committee with the charge of evaluating the student's research proposal, the student's academic performance and promise, and the faculty mentor's commitment to the project.

Students in the College of Biological Sciences are eligible to apply for Mayers Summer Internships, in the amount of $2600, and will be evaluated using similar criteria. Candidates for either award should assume that, if selected, they will spend approximately forty hours per week doing research over a ten-week period and that this research will provide the basis upon which to do more intensive research during the senior year.

NAMI on Campus affiliates are student-run, student-led organizations providing mental health support, education, and advocacy in a university or college setting.  Their mission is to improve the lives of students who are directly or indirectly affected by mental illness, increase the awareness and mental health services on campus, and to eliminate the stigma students with mental illness face.

5.  $1200 Honorarium for Artist Finalist   
            
   

The Multicultural Center (MCC) seeks students and alumni to contribute original artwork to serve as an award at our Annual Awards Ceremony on Monday, May 21st.  Submit your artwork by 5pm, March 30, 2007 by bringing it to our new address, 128 Lincoln Tower, 1800 Cannon Drive.                  

The work must relate to the MCC's biannual theme:  "You Are Here: Navigating Place, Space and Social Responsibility."

Important information and dates:

  • Submissions are due by 5 pm on Friday, March 30, 2007 to room 128, Lincoln Tower.
  • An artist statement must accompany the submission that conveys the interpretive relationship between the artwork and theme.
  • The artwork is owned by the Multicultural Center.
  • The artist must reproduce 30 copies of the award by May 1, 2007, at the artist's own expense.
  • Example of past finalist's selections are on display in the Multicultural Center, Suite 128, Lincoln Tower.
  • Past examples of awards have been quilt squares, blown glass, multimedia displays, poetry, and photographs.

6. Adapted Rec Sports (ARS)
- The Adapted Recreational Sports program offers the opportunity for disabled individuals to remain physically active, while connecting with others and exploring new challenges. ARS offers adult classes, including aquatics, and weight training.   ARS can provide accommodations for any recreational need persons have whether it is providing assistance to work out to individuals with visual impairments or adapting intramurals for specific needs.  There are also classes such as gymnastics and yoga for children!

Outdoor Adventure Center-
Did You Know? The OAC can provide accommodations and adapted sports equipment for almost any type of disability! Also, they are working hard to ensure all of the programs and events are accessible! Contact Director Steve Hawkins at hawkins.264@osu.edu or 247-8063 for questions regarding different accommodations or to find out more about OAC's programs and events!

 

The Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC) is committed to providing fun, challenging, and affordable wilderness-based experiences for the Ohio State University community. Through a variety of workshops and backcountry trips, participants will learn the requisite skills to safely enjoy the outdoors. Whether you want an exciting recreational activity, a chance to learn new skills, the opportunity to meet new people, or simply to take a break from academics, the OAC is for you!


 

7. Attention: FINALS WEEK HOURS EXTENDED ON THURSDAY JUNE 7TH

 

The Office for Disability Services WILL BE OPEN on Thursday, June 7th of Finals week, until 8:30 PM.   Please have your instructor write the time in on the Proctor Sheet if you need to have your exam scheduled between the hours of 5 PM and 8:30 PM on Thursday, June 7th.

8. Alternative Media Reminder:

 

Users of Alternative Media need to make sure that they have turned in their course syllabi for the quarter along with the textbook receipts.  We only need to make copies of these items and will return your originals to you on the day you bring them in.

 

CARMEN materials:  We are finding that many students are able to work with the materials on Carmen, but if anyone needs additional assistance with CARMEN documents, please let Sarah terry.5@osu.edu know ASAP.


  

9. Proctor Sheet Reminder:

 

Please pick up your Proctor Sheets as soon as possible and get them turned into the scheduling desk at ODS, at least 5 days prior to the examination.  When turning in your Proctor Sheets, please be sure to mention to the staff which accommodations you will be needing for your exam(s).

 

The deadline for turning in Proctor Sheets for Final exams only is Friday May 11, 2007.

 


 

10. The Student Advisory Committee Invites You!  The Student Advisory Committee is a leadership group of students registered with ODS to provide feedback about the services and accommodations students receive and to discuss new ideas to improve the delivery of services.  We plan on having our first meeting of the quarter in the near future.
