2.  Completing This Learning Disability Survey Can Win You $30 at Barnes & Noble!

What role does “place” have in influencing the success for students with Learning Disabilities?

I am Susan Whitmer a Master's candidate at the School of the Built Environment, University of Salfordand in England.  I am trying to answer that question with my research.  You could help by filling out a survey that will take less than 20 minutes. If your return it you will get a chance to when a $30 gift card from Barnes and Noble.  You can request a survey from

Scott Lissner (lissner.2@osu.edu) and he will collect your answers hold a random drawing for the gift certificate and forward the surveys to me.  Your participation will be kept confidential.

The aim of this study is to find out how students with learning disabilities use the spaces around them.  I want to find out where they prefer to sit in the classroom; where they do their best studying; where they might run into students or professors after class and spark interesting conversations about their class; and what spaces on campus provide the best possible campus community connection for them.

I will use what I have learned from the questionnaire to identify key aspects of the campus environment that affect your student experience, both academic and collegiate.  This information will help us better understand how to design interior and exterior spaces (place) that promote better engagement for you, make you more comfortable, and promote well-being for you college experience.

To be in the drawing surveys must be completed by response directly to Scott Lissner (lissner.2@osu.edu) by Thursday, May 3. Open attached word files for survey information and survey form.

3.  Students for Community Cultural Awareness is Hosting “Conversation Night”!

Hello!  I am the president of the student organization Students for Community Cultural Awareness and was hoping that you would send out information about our upcoming event to your listserv or inform the students and faculty/staff within your department.  We are hosting a “Conversation Night” on Monday, May 7th at 7:00pm in Derby Hall room 30.  The event is to foster dialogue between Somali students and non-Somali students about cultural issues.    We also encourage staff and faculty members to attend.  We will be having light refreshments and a raffle for a book about inter-culture communication.   All participants will also receive a packet with information about culture relations, communication, immigration, and information about Somalia. For more information about the organization check out our webpage at www.geocities.com/s4cca/home.html.
