2.  What is BVR?

BVR is a bureau within the Rehabilitation Services Commission

(RSC) which is Ohio's state agency that provides vocational

rehabilitation (VR) services to help people with disabilities

become employed and independent. They also offer a variety

of services to Ohio businesses, resulting in quality jobs for

individuals who have disabilities.  During Federal Fiscal Year

2006, RSC provided services to 54,423 Ohioans with

disabilities, and successfully rehabilitated 8,677 individuals. Of

that number, 8,320 obtained or maintained competitive

employment at an average annual income of $20,496. Nearly

100 percent were severely disabled.

There are three divisions of RSC:

The Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR) - BVR assists people who have physical, mental and emotional disabilities by providing vocational rehabilitation and other services.

The Bureau of Services for the Visually Impaired (BSVI) - BSVI provides vocational rehabilitation and other services to Ohioans who are blind or have a vision impairment.

The Bureau of Disability Determination (BDD) - BDD, in agreement with the Social Security Administration (SSA), determines medical eligibility for Ohio's Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claims. BDD is federally regulated and receives 100 percent of its funding from the Social Security Administration. It doesn't provide vocational rehabilitation services.

For more information about RSC see their website at http://www.rsc.ohio.gov/ and for vocational rehabilitation services: http://www.rsc.ohio.gov/VR_Services/index.asp.
