1. ODS Welcomes New Disability Services Counselor!

We are pleased to announce that Jill Malolepszy is the new counselor here at ODS! She joined our team on June 16th, 2008. Please welcome her aboard in her new role!

2. Garage Elevators out of Service!

The 11th Avenue Parking Garage Elevator will be inoperable from 6/10/08 through 8/03/08. The Ohio Union Garage Elevator will be inoperable from 6/9/08 through 8/29/08. 3. Attention Alternative Media Users!

A reminder to students receiving Alternative Media this summer - please bring or e-mail your course syllabi to Sarah Terry.5@osu.edu if you have not already done so. This information is critical for us to stay on course with the production of your materials.

4. Students needed for the Governor’s Council on Disability Panel!

The Governor's Council on Disability is looking for students to serve on their panel for the Youth Leadership Conference on Wed. July 16. They are specifically looking for individuals with cognitive disabilities between 18-30 years old who have gone through or are in the post secondary experience. Please let me know if you are willing to do this. Thanks!

5. Students Invited to Submit to the Digital Archives of Literacy Narratives!

The Digital Archives of Literacy Narratives (DALN) is a publicly available archive of literacy narratives in a variety of formats (print, video, audio) that together provide a historical record of the literacy practices and values of U.S. citizens, as these practices and values change. The DALN invites people of all ages, races, communities, backgrounds, and interests to contribute stories about how they learned to read, write, and compose meaning and how they continue to do so. We welcome all kinds of texts, both formal and informal: diaries, blogs, poetry, music and musical lyrics, fanzines, school papers, videos, sermons, gaming profiles, speeches, chat room exchanges, text messages, letters, stories, photographs, etc. We also invite contributors to provide samples of their own writing (papers, letters, zines, speeches, etc.) and compositions (music, photographs, videos, sound recordings, etc.).

The researcher is hoping to interview people with learning disabilities and/or communication disorders about their literacy practices, with literacy being broadly defined (reading, writing, singing, computer activities, drawing, etc.). These "interviews" can be done in any media (video, audio, print), and can also be done at a distance (e.g., email or phone conversation). The volunteer can choose to remain anonymous.
