1. ODS Welcomes You Back to OSU!
ODS would like to welcome you back to OSU as you return to campus from your summer break! We look forward to this exciting year as we will have many opportunities and events planned to celebrate our 35 year Anniversary of operation! Stay tuned for these events!
We have undergone a few staff changes that you may not be aware of:
Jill Malolepszy is the new counselor here at ODS! She joined our team on June 16th, 2008. Please welcome her aboard in her new role! Jill will oversee the students previously assigned to Sean Miller, the former Assistant Director and Assistive Technology Coordinator at ODS. Sean has resigned from his current position to accept another position within The Ohio State University.
Faye Harrington has accepted the permanent position of Exam Scheduling Assistant in our office. Faye Harrington previously held the position of student employee/ supervisor at ODS and we are very pleased to have her in her new capacity.
As we begin the quarter, please note:
- Au’ 2008 Proctor Sheets are available for pickup at our front desk
- You can contact Sarah Terry (Terry.5@osu.edu) or Ali Hickey (ahickey@studentlife.osu.edu) in Alt Media regarding your needs for Autumn Quarter ‘08. We need to have your course syllabi by Friday, September 26th. You can either e-mail them to us or drop by and we will copy it. This information is critical for the production of your course materials.
- Voter Registration forms for the upcoming election are available in our office! You can register to vote or update your current registration if your name or address has changed. Keep in mind, your registration form must be received by the Board of Elections (we can mail it for you) or postmarked by the 30th day before an election at which you intend to vote!
Always remember that you can email or call your assigned counselor if you have any questions, issues, problems, or concerns.
Once again, welcome back and we look forward to seeing you in the office!
2. ODS Invites You to Our Open House. Mark Your Calendars!
To help kick off Welcome Week, the Office for Disability Services invites you to our Open House on Tuesday, September 23, 2008, from 1-4pm. Join us for food, Buckeye necklace making, Wii games and more! Meet and greet ODS Staff, as well as Adapted Rec Sports staff, and representatives from the student groups UNITY and Sports FUSION! No signup is necessary- you can visit at anytime!

UNITY: Unity is a student-run organization that provides a community for students with disabilities. Through social activities and other programming, we work hard to show students the resources available to them, as well as raise awareness about disabilities within the OSU community.
4. Google looking for Recruits Majoring in Computer Sciences!
Google has asked ENTRY POINT! to recruit students with disabilities who are sophomores majoring in Computer Science for a new program, Building Opportunities
for Leadership and Development (BOLD) Practicum for Engineering, launching summer 2009. A small group of current sophomores will be selected to participate in the practicum, which will include three main components: a software project, skills-based training, and professional development. There is a very small window of time and names and resumes are needed before September 30th.
We also have a new partner: Proctor and Gamble. They are seeking majors in all engineering, business, marketing, accounting, finance, and economics.

5. Gilman International Scholarship Program Deadline Approaching!

The Gilman International Scholarship Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies abroad. Such international study is intended to better prepare
Over 1,200 scholarships of up to $5,000 will be awarded this academic year for
Students who apply for and receive the Gilman Scholarship to study abroad are now eligible to receive an additional $3,000 Critical Need Language Supplement from the Gilman Program for a total possible award of up to $8,000.
