1. Need work experience? Sign up to Interview with WRP!

 

The Workforce Recruitment Program for College Students with Disabilities (WRP) is a recruitment and referral program that connects federal sector employers nationwide with highly motivated postsecondary students and recent graduates with disabilities who are eager to prove their abilities in the workplace through summer or permanent jobs. Co-sponsored by the Department of Labor (ODEP) and the Department of Defense with the participation of about 20 other federal agencies, the WRP has provided employment opportunities for nearly 4,500 students since 1995.

2. Summer Internships for Students with Disabilities!

 

The American Association of People with Disabilities is looking for college students with disabilities to apply for: The 2009 Summer Internships for Students with Disabilities in Washington, D.C. Accepted candidates will spend the summer in Washington, DC, working either
in Congressional offices or the IT Divisions of Federal Government Agencies. Roundtrip airfare, accessible housing, and a living stipend will be provided

The speaker, Deanna Wilkinson, is an Associate Professor in the College of Education and Human Ecology.  She received her PhD from the School of Criminal Justice at Rutgers University before joining the faculty at The Ohio State University.  She is also affiliated with the Criminal Justice Research Center at OSU, the John Glenn School of Public Affairs, and the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus. 

 

African American Voices Gospel Choir Rehearsal (AAV)

Date: Wednesday, January 14, 2009 and every Wednesday

Location: St. Stephens Episcopal Church on the corner of Woodruff and High on north campus, 7pm-9pm

7.  The Student Life Diversity Council Seeking an OSU student to serve on Council!

 

The Student Life Diversity Council is currently seeking an Ohio State student to serve as a member of the Council.  The Student Life Diversity Council is a group of Student Life staff dedicated to addressing issues of diversity across the Office of Student Life and the Ohio State University.  Students selected for this council will have the opportunity to be a part of forming the mission of the group.  The student selected will be asked to attend the monthly meetings which meets the first Thursday of each month from 9 a.m. -11 a.m. Completed applications are due January 30th, 2009 to Sharrell Hassell-Goodman 108G Ohio Union, Ohio Stadium 1961 Tuttle Park Place.

Ohio State's New Media department is putting together an online feature that will highlight a selection of student winter break stories.  Specifically, they are looking for experiences that pertain in some way to your academic studies.  Ideas include:

 

-  Interesting internships or job shadowing

-  Service learning projects

-  Research involvement

-  Speaking to middle- and high-school students about going to college

-  Travel that counts toward credit

 

To be considered for this feature, send a 100-word overview to Kristen Convery at convery.3@osu.edu.  Please remember to include your name (as you would want to see it) and major.  Submissions must be received by the end of this week (Friday, Jan. 16) to be considered.
