Attention Students with Visual or Mobility Impairments! Apply for Scholarships through ODS! Deadline: April 1, 2009
There are three scholarships offered annually by the Office for Disability Services. Two are for students who have a visual impairment and one is for students who have a mobility impairment. Complete and submit the necessary application forms and you could be awarded scholarship money for the upcoming 2009-2010 school year!
The three available scholarships are listed below and application forms are available at the ODS website@ www.ods.osu.edu/current_scholarship.asp.
The Ohio Lions Foundation Helen Keller Scholarship
The Ohio Lion's Foundation awards four $2750 scholarships to qualified students with visual impairments who are attending OSU and are Ohio residents. To apply, complete the application form, include a copy of your college transcript, and a one to two page essay. The transcript does not need to be an official transcript.
The Ohio State University Charles W. Medick Scholarship
To apply for the Charles W. Medick Scholarship you must have a visual disability and complete the application form. The number of scholarships and their monetary values vary each year. Include a copy of your college transcript, (an unofficial transcript is OK), and a one to two page essay.
Anna Sborowitz Scholarship
The Anna Sborowitz scholarship is awarded each academic year. It is awarded to undergraduate students with a mobility impairment and severe limitations in movement or use of one or more of their extremities. All applicants must demonstrate financial need and satisfactory progress in their academic pursuits. In addition, students must be full-time or part-time (7 or more credit hours) and showing substantial progress toward a degree at The Ohio State University. The number of scholarships and their monetary values vary each year.

2. American Council for the Blind Offering 5 scholarships!
The American Council of the Blind of Ohio is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality and the equality of life for persons who are blind or visually impaired. We direct our efforts toward education, information and other activities designed to enhance the life styles of people who are blind or visually impaired. Our members include persons who are blind, visually impaired and sighted.
Our organization is proud to be able to offer five scholarships this year. You may a complete and print out the ACB-Ohio Scholarship application on our web site at www.acbohio.org.

3. The William and Francis Smith Junk Endowed Award Now Offered!
This annual award is to be given to a student with a physical disability who is enrolled at The Ohio State University and who lives in the Creative Living facility in Columbus, Ohio. Recipients will be determined by the University Committee for Student Financial Aid and ODS. Preference is given to a student demonstrating academic ability and with the greatest financial need. To be considered, a student must write a personal statement, which includes background, achievements, goals, and needs. The application and accompanying materials should be placed in the MAIL-IN box at either Creative Living complex. The number of scholarships and their monetary values vary each year.
4. Exam Reminder Winter Quarter Finals!
- Please turn in any remaining Exam Proctor Sheets as soon as possible to schedule Final Exams in at ODS. Please remember incomplete proctor sheets will be returned to you.
- You are responsible for contacting ODS during the 10th week of the quarter to obtain your final exam schedule. Be sure to check in with ODS during this final week of classes to obtain your final exam schedule and to ensure you know your final exam scheduled times.
- Reminder: Be sure to bring your OSU Buck ID, driver's license, or other photo ID with you for all exams taken with ODS.

The world of journalism is ever changing and to be a journalist in the 21stcentury, you must be capable of adaptation. The National Association of Black Journalists Student Chapter will be hosting a panel discussion. Come out and hear journalists of all mediums-print, radio, broadcast and even new media- share their experiences on "The Evolution of Journalism and the Black Journalist." With the ever-changing world of journalism, to be a journalist in the 21st century, adaptation is a must. Many of those serving on the panel have witnessed this firsthand. Students will have the chance to hear testimony from local African American journalists in the field as well as add to the discussion with their own questions or comments. This is also a great opportunity for students to network with journalists representing a number of organizations including WBNS10 TV, NBC 4, The Columbus Post, Power 107.5 and The FlyPaper.

7. Student workers needed for finals week at Younkin Success Center!
The Younkin Success Center needs students to work some late night (starting at midnight) / early morning shifts on Sunday, March 15, and Monday, March 16. This is for the Younkin's extended hours study times for finals week.
* Responsibilities are to staff an information desk, count building usage, and monitor building functions.
* Studying during shifts is encouraged and expected.
* All shifts are double-booked so everyone works with someone else.
* Everyone is trained before finals week, so they'll know the ins and outs of the Younkin.
* Pay is $7.75 an hour
We are accepting applications through this Friday, March 7. You must be working either this quarter or last quarter for Student Life (this helps us get the paperwork done quickly!)
