1. Join Us for a Special Viewing of "Through Deaf Eyes"!

The Office for Disability Services will be hosting a video screening of excerpts from "Through Deaf Eyes", a PBS documentary exploring nearly 200 years of Deaf Life in America. 

Following the presentation, a panel of Ohio State University Students who are Deaf

will be available for discussion.

2. WrightChoice is Hiring Summer YouthWorks Intern Coordinator!

The 2009 Summer YouthWorks! Program is funded in partnership with the City of Columbus, Ohio, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, the Franklin County Department of Jobs & Family Services, and the Central Ohio Workforce Investment Corporation/JOBLeaders. This program will result in work-readiness certification and paid internships, targeting low-income, out-of-school young adults, 18-24 years of age.

Summer YOUTHWORKS is a grant program administered by WrightChoice, Inc. The Intern Coordinator will work with the Program Manager to execute a marketing and recruitment plan to identify income eligible youth in targeted areas and within targeted populations. The coordinator will work with the students to determine eligibility, provide career assessments and to create an individual service strategy plan. The coordinator will also assist with the job matching process and worksite monitoring. At the conclusion of the summer, the coordinator will distribute evaluations to the interns and employers for final assessments. This position will require excellent networking, follow-up, and communications skills. Coordinator must have a passion for diversity and working with Generation Y. 

Position Overview

  • To recruit students from targeted populations in local high schools, colleges/universities, and surrounding communities
    * To schedule and facilitate informational sessions at local libraries, high schools,
    and/or at partnering organizations

    * Ensure all students complete the income eligibility process, assessments, career exploration and work readiness training

    * To coordinate activities making sure goals that have been set forth are met

    * To meet with the students, review and critique their resumes, conduct mock interviews and provide feedback, assist with the application process, and coach them in career preparation

    * Set-up meetings with companies to share more information about Summer YOUTHWORKS! program

    * Maintain close contact with Site Supervisor and students by performing pre-evaluations, site visits, follow-up calls, and post-evaluations

    **If selected for the position you must be available to attend an all day training on May 14th.

4. 22nd Annual NPHC Step Show May 2 at 6pm Mershon Auditorium

The 22nd Annual NPHC Step Show kicks off Greek Week 2009 in Mershon Auditorium. The doors open at 5pm and the show starts promptly at 6pm. Enjoy an evening of entertaining acts performed by the Divine Nine Historically African-American sororities and fraternities.
