We hope you had a fun and enjoyable summer, but it doesn't have to end!
There are many fun activities planned during the first two weeks of classes so you are greatly encouraged to attend. ODS Student groups UNITY and Sports FUSION will be holding planning and information meetings (see below)! You can also contact your assigned ODS counselor for technology demonstrations and trainings in our Assistive Technology Training Center! We have updated resources and contacts from our Student Life Office affiliates to help meet your needs. This includes Career Connection, the Walter E. Dennis Learning Center, the Multicultural Center, Rec Sports and many more!
We would also like to remind you to schedule a follow up appointment with your counselor if you haven't already done so. It is a good time to pick up Exam Proctor Sheets, Notetaker Letters and Verification Letters. Also if you receive Alternative Media, you can stop in to pick up or receive the status of your materials.
This looks to be a fun and exciting year! Be sure to stay ahead of the game by utilizing the services, accommodations and resources ODS has to offer for you!

2. Sports FUSION Announces Autumn Quarter Planning Meeting!
Sports FUSION, Finding Unified Sports in OSU's Networks, is having its Autumn Quarter Planning Meeting on Friday October 2nd at 4:30pm at the RPAC Meeting Room! Pizza and beverages will be provided! Come learn about Sports FUSION and help us develop interactive programming and events for the Autumn Quarter!
The mission of the student organization Sports F.U.S.I.O.N. is to provide Ohio State students with and without disabilities the Information, Opportunities and Accommodations to fully participate in recreational programs at The Ohio State University. Our vision is that all Ohio State students, with various levels of ability, will be knowledgeable about and feel comfortable participating in the wide array of activities from rock climbing and open rec basketball to indoor and outdoor group activities designed to be demonstrative and will let students experience new and familiar sports. Participation through Recreational Sports Programming, including cardio and weight training, team sports, fitness classes and aquatics, will be encouraged, and opportunities to participate will be provided.
The Sports F.U.S.I.O.N. group values diversity, along with the long-lasting physical and mental benefits of maintaining an active lifestyle and socializing with fellow students. Another important purpose of the group is for students to have FUN engaging with their peers in an inclusive, relaxed setting.

Unity is a student-run organization that provides a community for students with disabilities. Through social activities and other programming, we work hard to show students the resources available to them, as well as raise awareness about disabilities within the OSU community. Unity works closely with the Office for Disability Services and the ADA Coordinator's Office in order to meet these goals. Nike Human Race Student Ambassadors Needed
10.23.2009 - where will you be?
Last year, on 8.31.08 the world stopped to run for a day. In 25 countries in 24 hours, runners at official Nike Human Race 10K events and through Nike+ took to the streets to run 6.2 miles together and raise money for 3 global charities. Each race culminated in an all-out concert, with headliners like Ben Harper, All-American Rejects, and Kanye West. In that tradition, on 10.23.09 the Nike Human Race 10K lives on at OSU and other key locations worldwide. The Ohio State University Human Race will benefit the OSU "Students First Students Now" Charity.
We are looking for energetic brand ambassadors who are passionate about the Nike brand. Ambassadors will be a part of the Nike Ambassadors at OSU with the goal of hosting training runs, special programming, sneak peeks into the newest Nike running apparel and footwear, and incentives to participate in the Nike Human Race 10K.
Applicants must...
- Be a student of the OSU
- Be interested in marketing for Nike and representing a global athletics leader
- Be well spoken and personable
- Be capable of running 2 miles and interested in training for a 10K (6.2 miles)

Poster Contest Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26, 1990. The Federal law requires equal opportunities to employment, state and local government programs and services, goods and services of businesses, transportation and telecommunications. In the years since the signing of the ADA opportunities and access for people with disabilities have improved around the country.

COSI Mural Contest
In celebration of our 10th Anniversary, COSI is calling local artists for a community art project.
We have six large walls (20' x 12' dry wall) in a prime stairwell location overlooking downtown, the river, and Big Science Park, where we would like to display themed murals.
Here's where we need you! COSI is requesting all local artists to submit mural interpretations or representations of any or all of the following elements important to COSI and our community: Science, Industry, Progress, Technology, Engineering, Math, Energy, Environment, Education, Health, and Family Learning.
Please share this request with your colleagues, protégés, students, or others from your community, and submit your vision to COSI by Friday, October 2 at 5PM.
Send submissions to Carli Lanfersiek, Director of Advertising and Promotions at clanfersiek@mail.cosi.org or mail to 333 W. Broad St. Columbus, OH 43215.
COSI representatives will select the top six concepts and contact the artists by October 10, 2009. The selected artists will then be able to bring their murals to life on the designated walls during COSI operating hours Wednesdays through Saturdays 10AM to 5PM, and Sundays, Noon to 6PM. We ask that artists plan their work for completion on November 7, 2009 as part of the 10th Anniversary Celebration. The murals will last at least a year, but will have no COSI maintenance or touch ups. Artists can sign their names in the corner for recognition with exposure to COSI's 500,000 guests annually. Winners will receive a $250 cash prize.
Requirements:

2. Murals must consist of 2D paint designs only.

City of Denver: Green Valley Ranch Library

Green Valley Ranch Library The Denver Office of Cultural Affairs (DOCA) seeks to commission an artist or team of artists to create site-specific artwork for the Green Valley Ranch Library, a new facility being built at Argonne Way and Andes Court. The funding currently designated for public art at the site is $140,000 including design, fabrication and installation. However, additional funds may be available, depending where and how the artwork is integrated into the structure and design of the building.
The project is open to all artists in the U.S. working in all media and materials.
Lafayette Library and Learning Center: Small Works Purchase Program

Denver Botanic Gardens: Mid-Century Modern Interpreted - EXTENDED

Denver Botanic Gardens is pleased to present the opportunity to submit previously completed artworks for consideration for an exhibition entitled, "Mid-Century Modern: Gardens' Landmarks in Context." This show will be an invitational and will provide an appropriate punctuation to the 50th anniversary of the Gardens' York Street location, in addition to celebrating iconic structures amid new developments. "Mid-Century Modern Interpreted" seeks to include two-dimensional works of art (photos, paintings, drawings, or other) that capture the essence of the Gardens' landmark structures such as the Boettcher Memorial Conservatory and the related Education Building. From both outside and inside vantage points, these structures designed by Hornbein & White in 1960s balance monumentality with details that subtly soften the strong lines and cast concrete. Open to artists residing in Colorado.
San Francisco Redevelopment Agency: Hunters Point Shipyard Public Art

The Redevelopment Agency of the City and County of San Francisco ("Agency") is seeking submittals from qualified artists that will be commissioned to create original public art of the highest aesthetic standards for the Hunters Point Shipyard ("Shipyard"). The public art that is produced will be part of a larger community planned Cultural Historic Recognition Program celebrates in various ways the Bayview Hunters Point and Shipyard communities. Through this two-phased Call for Artists the Agency intends to select artists who will create and fabricate public art for the Shipyard. The first phase seeks to establish a pre-qualified pool of artists for consideration. A shortlist of artists responding to the Call for Artists ("Finalists") will be invited to develop a concept proposal to create public art for the Shipyard in the second phase of the solicitation process. Finalists will be paid a modest honorarium to develop a proposal. Artists are encouraged to use a variet! y of artistic approaches and a wide range of appropriate media to apply. Eventually, an Artist Selection Jury will select award candidates who will create public art for the Shipyard among the finalists who have submitted concept proposals. Agency staff will present the Jury's recommendation to the Agency Commission for confirmation and for authorization to enter into an Artists Contract.
Colorado Council on the Arts: Gallery Presidents, Colorado State Capitol

The Colorado Council on the Arts, Art in Public Places Program seeks to commission two portraits, one of President Clinton and one of President Obama to be located in the Gallery of Presidents on the 3rd floor of the rotunda of the State Capitol. The 42 portraits in the Gallery of Presidents were all painted by Lawrence Williams who died in 2003. The State of Colorado would like these commissioned portraits to remain in a similar style, color range and background as Williams work.
History Colorado Center

The Colorado Historical Society is building a 200,000 sq. ft. History Colorado Center in the downtown cultural district in Denver, Colorado. The new facility will include a public museum and exhibition spaces, education areas, collections management facilities, administrative offices as well as the Stephen H. Hart Library and State Archaeology and Historic Preservation offices. The History Colorado Center will be a destination for learning, a thought-provoking center for civic conversation and an environment that encourages an inspirational journey into the future by understanding the past. Its architecture will evoke Colorado's spirit: beautiful surroundings, diverse peoples and unique places. Its natural, native colors will reflect the vibrancy of the western landscape and the interior elements will include many open spaces using Colorado materials. The Art Selection Committee seeks an artist or artist team to join the design team to identify specific art opportunities i! n the new facility. $30,000 has been aside for the design team commission. The artist will also develop a proposal for a major integrated art commission of up to $300,000. The Committee is looking for an artist to help take the Museum and its programs to a new level, incorporating artwork that engages all ages and makes the visitor central to the history experience rather than a passive observer. The artist must have the skills and experience commensurate with the responsibility of successfully completing a major public artwork with a budget of over $100,000. All applicants must be legal residents of the United States.

Santa Rosa Transit Mall

CALL FOR ARTISTS - 150 APPLICANTS ONLY. The Transit Department (CityBus) of the City of Santa Rosa, California, has been awarded funding through the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) for improved way-finding, streetscape redesign and revitalization of a one-block Transit Mall on Second Street between Santa Rosa Avenue and B Street in downtown Santa Rosa. The selection committee is seeking an artist or artist team to prepare two-dimensional imagery, and work with the design team to incorporate the imagery into custom fabricated installations as described herein.
San Francisco Arts Commission: General Hospital Main Entry Drive and Plaza Artwork

General Hospital's new Acute Care Unit will be located on the west lawn of the existing San Francisco General Hospital campus. The new facility will house 284 patient beds, as well as surgical and other acute care functions. The building is nine stories, with two basement stories and seven stories above ground. The San Francisco Arts Commission's goal is to commission artwork of the highest aesthetic standards for the General Hospital Acute Care Unit that contributes to the happiness and well-being of patients, visitors and staff. Through this RFQ we intend to establish a candidate pool of professional artists for consideration for two public art project opportunities: 1. Main Entry Drive Sculpture and 2. Plaza Artwork.

This year's competition promises to be even more provocative with another graduating class of LCAD fine artists upping the ante on the competition. Our jurors will be selecting the qualifying artists during the first week of September, '09 and the final round of judging will be from the live work on the day of the opening which is November 12th. There are numerous opportunities for public art adjacent to the cottages, including along the new raised walkways that link the cottages, and flanking Davis Drive, which leads from the main campus entrance to the cemetery and the gathering places. The artwork should be three-dimensional. The art should recognize the dedication of the heroes of our country. It should also evoke the spirit of caring and the history and culture of the San Luis Valley.

The City of Columbia, Missouri, invites artists to apply for a public art project at the planned Fifth and Walnut Streets Parking Garage. The City seeks an artist or artist team to create new site-specific, original, public artwork(s) for the garage. Works in a variety of durable media and forms will be considered. The project is a component of Columbia's Percent for Art Program, established in 1997, and is being implemented by the city's Office of Cultural Affairs (OCA). Artists should submit qualifications only, not a design proposal. The project is open to all artists and artist teams legally residing and eligible to work in the United States of America. Chabot College Public Art Project

REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS. Chabot College seeks accomplished artists to create permanent, highly visible public artworks to adorn prominent sites across our campus. Chabot is currently renewing its forty-year-old façade through a tax-funded facilities bond. As we refresh our appearance, we are interested in surrounding our site with original artworks (sculptures, murals, mosaics, etc.) and/or visual enhancements (fountains, decorative benches, ornamental railings, etc.) that make strong aesthetic and educational statements, as well as beautify exterior and interior spaces of our campus. We are interested in artworks and/or visual enhancements that: welcome students, faculty, staff, and the community to Chabot; create a public identity or signature for our college; and/or offer focal points for discussion, appreciation and congregation. The Border Art Biennial 2010 is a juried exhibition which highlights the often under represented art along the border region. This year the El Paso Museum of Art & Museo de Arte in Ciudad Juarez has extended the parameters to all border states in both Mexico and the United States. La Bienal Fronteriza de Arte 2010 es una exposición con jurado que pone en relieve artistas poco conocidos de la región fronteriza. CraftTexas 2010 is open to all artists currently residing in Texas. In the Fall of 2010, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (HCCC) will host one of its biggest and most loved shows, CraftTexas 2010, the sixth in a series of juried exhibitions showcasing the best in Texas-made contemporary craft. Formerly known as CraftHouston, the show's new title, CraftTexas, more accurately reflects the participating artists from all over the state who work in clay, fiber, glass, metal and wood media and in found/recycled materials. This unique show, which will be captured in a DVD catalogue and may be toured, provides Texas artists the opportunity to be considered for inclusion in major national museum and private collections. The exhibition also serves as a starting place for the general public to appreciate the depth and breadth of art being made in our own communities and across the state. CraftTexas 2010 will be juried by Gail M. Brown, independent Curator of Contemporary Craft from Philadelphia, PA; Cindy Hickok, internationally acclaimed fiber artist from Houston, TX; and Paula Owen, president of the Southwest School of Arts and Crafts in San Antonio, TX.

OCALI Conference Gallery Opportunity
The Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence (OCALI) is pleased to announce Gallery by OCALI, a showcase of original artwork created by individuals with ASD or low-incidence disabilities (such as visual impairments, hearing impairments, orthopedic impairments such as cerebral palsy or spina bifida, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and other health impairments).
Gallery by OCALI is open to any artist with a disability who wishes to display their artwork at the 2009 OCALI Conference and Exposition. Artists will have the opportunity to showcase their artwork, discuss their creative process with conference participants and sell or take orders.
Gallery by OCALI is a pilot project in 2009 and will be limited to ten (10) artists. Qualified applicants will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost to participate is $100.
